Just a short drive away, the Columbia River Gorge, America’s first scenic highway, winds through a breathtaking 80-mile canyon carved by the mighty Columbia River. Lush forests, towering cliffs, and cascading waterfalls create a must-visit destination. Embark on a scenic drive along the Historic Columbia River Highway, where iconic views, historic sites, and world-class hiking trails await.

Day 1: Your Gorge Adventure Begins

Explore Troutdale, Oregon, a charming gateway to the Columbia River Gorge. Begin your adventure at the Sugarpine Drive-In, where classic American fare and legendary soft-serve ice cream await. Don’t miss their mouthwatering Waffle Grilled Cheese, perfectly paired with a comforting cup of tomato soup.

For a touch of history, stop by the “King of Roads” Exhibit at the Barn Store Gift Shop to learn about the iconic Columbia River Highway. Embark on a scenic journey along this historic route, stopping at breathtaking landmarks. Marvel at the 620-foot cascade of Multnomah Falls, Oregon’s tallest waterfall. Enjoy the beauty of Horsetail Falls, an easy-to-view cascade nestled amidst lush forests, right from the parking lot – no hiking required! After a day of exploration, check into Bridal Veil Lodge, your cozy home base for two nights. This charming retreat blends rustic appeal with modern comforts, making it an ideal spot to unwind. For dinner, head to McMenamin’s Black Rabbit Restaurant at Edgefield’s main lodge. Stop by The Riv Café, a historic church-turned-café offering a welcoming atmosphere and delicious bites paired with excellent coffee. Don’t miss the scenic drive to Rowena Crest, where breathtaking panoramic views of the Columbia River Gorge will leave you in awe.

Day 3: Hiking, Donuts, & Salmon Spotting

Start your day with a hearty complimentary breakfast at Bridal Veil Lodge, the perfect fuel for your adventures. Begin by exploring Bridal Veil Falls, a short and rewarding 20-minute hike that leads to a stunning waterfall cascading over cliffs, offering a truly mesmerizing sight.

Next, head to Sandy, Oregon, a town brimming with charm and scenic beauty. Treat yourself to a fresh donut and coffee at Joe’s Donuts, a local favorite that’s sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. Then, visit Jonsrud Viewpoint, where you can capture breathtaking panoramic views of the Sandy River Valley with majestic Mt. Hood in the distance. For a more active outing, hike the scenic Sandy River Park Trail for an hour. While spotting salmon during their run isn’t guaranteed, the serene natural surroundings make the journey worthwhile. Day 4: Farewell, Oregon

Begin your morning at the cozy Huckleberry Inn, where you can enjoy a hearty American home-style breakfast. Treat yourself to their famous huckleberry shake—a delightful way to fuel up for the day ahead.

Next, venture to the Wildwood Recreation Site, a haven for nature enthusiasts. Explore its diverse ecosystems by hiking the well-maintained trails, such as the Cascade Streamwatch Trail.
